Christopher Baley is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the IRDL laboratory of the University of South Brittany (UBS-University of South Brittany – France – http://irdl.fr/).
He obtained his doctorate in mechanics/materials from the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (France) in 1991 on polymer matrix composite materials.
His main research interests relate to composite materials with an organic matrix and more particularly, since 1991, to biocomposites (polymer reinforced with natural fibres).
On biocomposites, his work can be summarized in four themes:
The use of vegetable fibers as reinforcement and the development of composite materials with less impact on the environment
Knowledge of plant walls (development according to growth conditions, properties, geometry, composition, behaviour, etc.)
The analysis of the structure of remarkable plants which are optimized composite structures, * The development of agro-materials (eco-materials, biocomposites) in the more or less long term.
He is the author of approximately 153 publications in international peer-reviewed journals (up to October 1, 2022) and 20 book chapters.
